{ frequently asked questions }

1. Do you have a studio?

No, we currently shoot exclusively on location at your home or favorite location, such as a beach or park. We find that this allows your child to feel more comfortable with us. The session often feels more like a playdate than an appointment. Parents have often commented to us that the session was stress-free compared to what they were used to at a typical photo studio. Plus, we enjoy the variety of shooting at different locations. :)

2. Do you use flash or other lighting equipment?

We take advantage of natural light whenever possible, as it allows us to move around freely and shoot without startling your child. In some low-light situations, however, it simply isn't possible to capture an active child without a flash. In those cases, we may choose to use a portable studio lighting set up.

3. What should we wear?

You want the subject of your photos to be your beautiful children, not the big Mickey or Minnie Mouse on their shirt, so we usually recommend steering away from graphic prints. Solid colors and simple patterns usually work best. It is your choice whether or not you want your family to be dressed casually or in their Sunday best. We are always happy to accommodate a couple of wardrobe changes. (I can't guarantee your children will be though!) Depending on your child's temperament, it may be best to spend most of the session in comfortable clothing before changing to something more formal.

4. How long will our session last?

Sessions generally last about an hour, but we usually aren't watching the clock. Some children need more time to warm up. Sometimes we need to take a short break for a feeding or diaper change. Newborns, in particular, often require the most amount of time. Kids rule when it comes to this job, so we show up with an open mind (and schedule).

5. What if we are planning an outdoor session and it rains?

We all know how unpredictable New England can be when it comes to the weather. If we are planning an outdoor session and the weather doesn't cooperate due to rain, wind, sleet, or snow, we can simply reschedule for another date that will work for all of us. There is no fee involved. Rain dates cannot be booked in advance, however.

6. What if my child is cranky and the session does not work out?

We're parents too, and we know that sometimes babies (and older kids alike) just don't want to cooperate. Maybe they don't feel well, maybe they missed a nap, maybe they're hungry... We're happy to hang around if you need to feed or change your baby, or if it seems like its just not going to work on a particular day, we may decide its best to reschedule. Believe me, we've been there!

7. How soon after our session will we receive the proofs?

Your proofs will be available online 2-3 weeks after your session. During that time we will be selecting the best shots, retouching and processing the images to bring out their best qualities.

8. How many proofs will I receive?

Our At-Home Portrait Session includes 40 proofs that we have selected as the best images from the session. They are all fully retouched and processed. *Picture Outings or Picture Playdates include different numbers of proofs. Please read the package description to learn how many proofs are included in your session.

9. Do you retouch the photos?

Yes! We individually retouch and process each photo to bring out its best qualities. This includes removing blemishes, bruises, cuts and scratches, and even booger-noses! We treat each image as an individual piece of art.

10. Does the session fee include prints?

No, the Portrait Session fee does not include prints. The fee covers the travel and time shooting the session. In addition, it covers the time spent editing and retouching proofs.

11. Can I order individual prints without ordering a photo package?

Yes, we now offer prints a la carte, without the purchase of a photo package.

12. Can I order digital images?

Yes! We are happy to offer you a disc of images selected from your session and saved in JPEG format. The price of the image disc varies depending on the type of session and number of proofs included.

13. What do you mean by "digital images"?

Everything is going digital these days, and we know many of you have digital photo frames, blogs, iPhones, and countless other gadgets on which to display and share your photographs. When we provide you with your digital images, you will receive a disc with high-resolution JPEG files from your photo session. These are the same files we send to our photo lab to be printed when you place an order. You are free to save, copy, print and even share these files!

14. Can I share my digital images with my friends and family?

Yes!!! That is the beauty of digital images. It is incredibly easy to make copies of your photos and share them with your friends and family -- and we want you to! We know how excited you will be to show off your photos, and we think this makes our packages an excellent value.

15. Can I get my digital images printed at my favorite print center?

Yes!!! The high-resolution JPEGs on your CD or DVD are the exact same files we would send to our own lab. You are free to send these files to your own favorite photo center, including stores such as Wal-Mart or Target, or online sites such as Shutterfly, Snapfish, or Kodak Easy Share! This way, you can take advantage of the multitude of photo products available these days such as greeting cards, calendars, magnets and more, not to mention affordable print prices. We even include a limited-usage rights release right on the CD.

16. What other benefits are there to owning the rights to the digital images?

In addition to sharing your digital images and printing them economically at the photo center of your choice, one of the greatest advantages of owning your digital images is that you can back them up and store them remotely, such as on an online site like Shutterfly. This way, should you ever have the misfortune to suffer a flood or fire, your images and priceless memories will be safe.

17. What forms of payment do you accept?

We currently accept PayPal, Visa, Mastercard and personal checks.

18. What is your privacy policy?

We will never sell your personal information or put any identifiable information about your children on our website. Click here for our complete privacy policy.
